Sonny Funny Bunny

Sonny Funny Bunny is a simple little story with significant meaning for my family. For years, my grandma (Grandma Whiskers---nicknamed when I was a toddler) and my mom talked about writing and illustrating a children’s book together. Unfortunately, the timing just never seemed quite right. One Sunday afternoon my grandma told my mom she “wrote a little something” to get them started. And so, Sonny Funny Bunny was born. It was just a rough draft but enough to get them excited. Sadly, that’s as far as they got. My grandma passed away shortly after. I was nine years old. As the years went on and my interest in art continued to grow, my mom thought we could turn my grandma’s story into a book. So, after I finished my art degree and was settling into my career, I told my mom “Let’s do it.” I told her I would illustrated the story and her job was to act as editor and research how and where to self-publish. And so our journey began. We decided almost immediately not to tell anyone in our extended family that we were doing this. We wanted it to be “just ours” until we were finished. Once the book was completed and printed we surprised everyone with their own copy on Christmas Eve. It took years in the making but was truly a labor of love.
